MIIT Leaders Visit SIM Technology’s New R&D Building

In the morning of November 3, 2008, accompanied by relevant Shanghai Municipal Government leaders, a group of more than 10 government officials including Mr. Xi Guohua, Vice Minister of Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT); Mr. Yi Xueqing, Director of Department of Policy and Regulations; and Mr. Wang Zhanfu, Director of Department of Telecommunication Development, visited the new R&D building of SIM Technology Group Limited(“SIM Technology” or “the Group”; SEHK stock code: 2000) for an on-site investigation, after an earlier trip to Baosteel Group and Hundong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding Group.
The visit is part of a nation-wide investigation and study to learn more about the implementation of scientific outlook on development for MIIT. According to Vice Minister Xi, R&D and design companies, as typified by Shanghai Simcom, a subsidiary of SIM Technology, plays a very critical role in linking upstream and downstream businesses throughout the entire mobile phone industry chain. This explains why SIM Technology was selected for the visit.
After receiving an introduction from the Group’s management, Vice Minister Xi was deeply impressed by the Group’s R&D and design capabilities, praising the Group for its dedication and contributions to the development of the country’s telecommunication industry, in particular, development of TD and the Olympic Mobile-TV project. Government officials also gave some guidance to telecommunication enterprises in China on how to face the current global financial crisis. Vice Minister Xi believes that the handset market in China has huge room for development and this will translate into immense opportunities for handset enterprises in the country. He commented that a design company should focus more on market development and customers’ needs. With the right positioning and perseverance, a company will be able to grow and take its business forward.
Vice Minister Xi further commented that the government will place more emphasis on assisting domestic telecommunication enterprises that possess strong R&D capability and it hopes to work with these enterprises to link up the entire industry chain for boosting healthy development of the wireless communication industry, especially the TD sector.
